First Look and Private Vows at Mission San Juan Capistrano

Emily and Cyrus started their wedding day getting ready separately, then decided to do their first look and private vows at Mission San Juan Capistrano. This Mission is the perfect location to take pictures if you're getting married at Serra Plaza and looking for a nearby location to take portraits. Springtime, with all the flowers in bloom, is the best time of year to take pictures, and everywhere you look around, the Mission is another beautiful spot. From bridal portraits to wedding party pictures, it's such a convenient location to have nearby Serra Plaza. (Just be sure you make a reservation ahead of time to secure your spot)

Whimsical Florals for a Spring Wedding at Serra Plaza

Serra Plaza has an old-world charm with beautiful courtyards that Blooming Bliss Design filled with the prettiest flowers for their wedding; it was the perfect backdrop for their wedding day! From the flowers along the aisle to the colorful flowers pouring out of the fountain, Blooming Bliss Design added the perfect whimsical touch to add a little personality to this otherwise historic wedding venue. This venue is a hidden gem that captures Southern California's vibe with its Spanish-style architecture; it is a photographer's dream venue to have stunning architecture as the background for each photo.

One of my favorite parts about Emily and Cyrus's wedding day was their intentional connection with their guests. With over 140 attendees, they made it a point to connect personally with everyone at the wedding. They went table to table, laughing, hugging, and thanking everyone for being there for the wedding, making everyone feel part of their celebration. When booking me as their wedding photographer, they really wanted me to focus on candid shots throughout the wedding since they wanted to live in the moment and really enjoy their wedding. I always love it when my couples trust me to be able to tell a story of their wedding with my photography by focusing on those little moments you might not catch throughout the wedding day. For Emily and Cyrus, it paid off beautifully. I captured the raw emotional moments and people's joy and love throughout the day.

A part of the night that you could tell meant a lot to Emily and Cyrus were the speeches portion of the evening, making everyone laugh and cry. It was clear that Emily and Cyrus are really LOVED by their friends and family. As the night went on, Emily and Cyrus's friends and family knew how to party, with the dance floor always full. It was a night full of laughter and dancing, with the evening only getting more exciting with the champagne tower and a gorgeous cake with the thickest frosting that was so delicious!!

Throughout the day, I got to use my 35mm film camera, adding an extra layer of nostalgia to the photos. The filmy, Spanish-Tuscan aesthetic perfectly complemented the venue and the couple's style. Capturing Emily and Cyrus's wedding at Serra Plaza was such a fantastic night. I loved capturing their love at both Serra Plaza and Mission San Juan Capistrano, making their wedding day truly unforgettable. After the wedding, I sent Emily and Cyrus some sneak peeks from their wedding day. Emily had the SWEETEST response: "Thank you so much for sharing the sneak peeks!! They are so beautiful, and I was tearing up all over again just looking at the photos and reliving yesterday!
