These engagement photos in San Francisco with Erica and Yannick were a vibe! We walked around San Francisco to their favorite spots and basically had a date day while I followed them around. We went to a bar, got some drinks to start, then went to 99 Rhode Island Street - the building where they first met. From there, we walked around reminiscing about the spots where they first held hands, kissed, made out in the car (HELL YEAH LOL) and had the best time! After walking around, we made our way to the Sausalito boat docks. They live in Sausalito so they spent some time on the boat docks just hanging out and this town means a lot to them! We popped champagne, talked about what having a boat would be like, watched the seagulls fly by and got some amazing photos near the water and docks!
Why I Photograph Couples & Wedding in a Documentary Style
If you're unfamiliar with documentary style photography, it's an approach where I basically document a couples session or wedding as it unfolds. I love letting couples cuddle up, walk around, laugh, chat and do their own thing. But that doesn't mean I'll leave you hanging if you want more prompting and advice. Every couple is different, and I'm happy to hang back and let you love on each other if you're very comfy with the camera and want true documentary styled photos with very little interruptions. BUT with that being said, I'm also so happy to guide, prompt and give more directions for my couples who aren't as comfy - which is a more candid editorial style! I love giving prompts, while wanting you to feel natural, candid, and have fun! Every couple will interact with the prompts differently, which is the most important part. I like to let you be yourselves so that these photos feel natural to you, and your personalities shine and show through these memories I've taken.
Erica and Yannick are the perfect example of the mix of documentary style photography and an editorial style. I gave them some prompts like "put your legs on Yannick, cuddle up, sip on your drinks, pretend like I'm not here and flirt away". We got so many cute photos of them cuddling and laughing together as they joked and got tipsy on a martini and margarita. I also let them just walk around the city and put their arms around each other while I just followed around. We also did some editorial vibes where I gave more direction like leaning on the brick wall and looking at each other, but I also let them do their own thing and kisses followed!! On the docks we popped champagne which was so great to get the super fun candid photos in! I love that we were able to do a mix of these photography styles and include some fun activities while doing things that are fun and memorable for them!
