A Digital & Film Documentary Style Wedding Photographer in Sonoma County + San Francisco
As a wedding photographer in Sonoma County and San Francisco, I’ve always been drawn to a more organic & candid approach to capturing one of the most important days in your life. It’s about telling your story in an authentic way, without excessive direction or forced poses. I want to give you photos that feel real, raw, and full of emotion! I primarily shoot digitally because it allows me to capture the fleeting moments with precision and clarity. However, I also love to sprinkle in some 35mm film for fun and when inspiration strikes. Film has such a fun, unique & timeless quality that adds an extra layer of character to the images. It’s my way of keeping things fresh and spontaneous, blending the best of both worlds to create something truly special for you :)
Documentary Style: Capturing Your Story Organically as it Unfolds
I love the idea of telling your wedding day story exactly as it happens, without trying to control it. My goal is to capture the real moments—the laughter, the tears, the joy, and everything in between—without too much intervention. It’s about being there in the background, watching as the day unfolds naturally, and documenting those candid, unposed moments that tell the true essence of your wedding day.
Authenticity and Emotion: Capturing Sentimental Moments
An organic approach is about making sure the day feels effortless. Weddings are full of emotions, and I want to capture those raw feelings as they happen, without interrupting the flow. Whether it’s a spontaneous laugh during the ceremony, a private moment during portraits, or a candid exchange between friends, my goal is to let the wedding day unfold as it should — genuine, beautiful, and true to you!
Natural and Ambient Light: Letting the Sun and Moon Do Their Magic
I’m a huge fan of using natural light or ambient light whenever possible. The sun, candles & uplighting provides the most authentic images, so I do my best to let it shine through. There’s something so real and warm about watching light shine in different ways. Of course, when things get a little darker (like on the dance floor), I love using direct flash to add a fun, editorial touch. But, for the most part, I want the light to tell the story, just like it does with the moments I’m capturing.
True to Life Editing: Photos that Capture the Day you Remember
Making your images come to life with editing is such an important process. I want to make sure that each photo reflects the genuine atmosphere of your wedding day, with colors that pop naturally and moments that feel as real and raw as they were when they happened. My goal is to preserve the memories of your special day, so that every image is as true to life as the love you’re celebrating.
Storytelling: Every Moment and Detail Matter
The way the sunlight hits your bouquet, the subtle glance shared between you and your partner, the messy dinner tables after a lively reception — these details matter. As a documentary photographer, I see these moments and love capturing them because they all contribute to the bigger picture. I’m constantly anticipating what’s coming next, so I can be ready to preserve the memories you’ll cherish forever.
Timeless Film Photos
I love using my film cameras for a fun & vintage vibe on your wedding day! There’s something magical about the soft grain and dreamy colors that film gives, creating photos with a unique, nostalgic feel. It’s like adding a little bit of classic flair to your wedding memories! While I primarily shoot on my digital cameras, film photos have a way of turning ordinary moments into something truly beautiful. Film is great, whether you’re looking for that vintage touch or just want to mix things up!
Natural Poses: Comfortable and True to You
When it comes to posed photos—whether it’s family portraits, wedding party shots, or just the two of you—I do my best to make it feel natural. I’ll guide you to find the best angles and positions, but the goal is always for you to feel comfortable. That’s why engagement sessions are so important to me. We get to know each other, and by the time your wedding day comes around, we’re already comfortable together. It’s all about creating a relaxed & fun experience that lets your personalities shine through in the photos.
Long-Lasting Memories: Timeless Photos to Cherish
At the end of the day, what matters most is creating timeless memories that last a lifetime. I want the photos I take to remind you of the warmth, love, and joy you felt on your wedding day, no matter how many years pass. That’s the magic of documentary style & film wedding photography: capturing moments that tell your unique story in a way that never fades.
